  1. I like that the New York Times gives you a variety of events that's going on in our society. It also gives you a lot of factual information. I don't like that it has so many papers. I feel like it is a lot crammed into one newspaper and I feel like each page should be about a certain topic. Example: one page should be about major crisis, and another with advertisements. Instead of some of it being put on the same page. A good newspaper can give you more in depth information. I feel like television and social media can, if you're willing to go searching for it. Because a lot of it can be false. The New York Times had a variety, just like my CNN news app that I used. The pro's is that that they both do give you a wide selection of information and the con's is I honestly don't have one I really enjoyed both of them. Sometimes the app could get annoying with all the updates but, other than that they were both great. Yes, I would recommend the New York Times to others. Because our society is built around technology it's good to read some time off paper, and not just through social media.

  2. • — What do you like about the NYT?
I like that it gives an amount of news good or bad and puts what is important to know at the front. It also has a wide news selection and is more organized to me more so than other news papers

    • — What do you not like about the paper?
I dont like that if I want to look at something really fast I have to search in the paper, in the news app I can pick what I want to read.
    • — What can a good newspaper do that social media or television news cannot?
Good newspapers that are honest can tell the truth. There is not alot of BS that can come from a newspaper all over social media you have to deal with untrue things. In the paper not so much
    • — How do you compare the NYT to your news app that you used for the earlier assignment? What pros and cons are there to each?
Comparison would be that they both give you the news you need to know. Spending time on fox vs. NYT they both have a story and one may be worded different but you get the news.Pro for NYT is that there is a news app and a paper to read that is handy. A con would be that I really still like the fox news app better because I do like fox and friends in the morning.Pro to Fox is that you can still hear positive and not all negative on Fox. A con is that it is one sided.
    • — Would you recommend the NYT to others? Why or why not?
Yes i would because it is a really good news paper to read and is gives you insight on alot of good things to read about other than going on social media for everything. NYT is a really good creditable source.

  3. I like the amount of information that the NY Times gives for articles including the short stories that it gives. Having the NY Times app on my phone for the past five six months has really not only inspired but also has given me knowledge at which I never had before. The only thing bad thing that I can think of is that there aren't enough pictures. I'm a visual person as well as reader so pictures helps me memorize the information at which was just read. The number one thing that a newspaper can do that television news and social media cannot do is give in depth material/facts and information to the audience. In order to get the full story on what has occurred you will have to go to a source that will give you just that. Television news gives you the surface as well as the images. Social media will give you the image and little information. Newspaper will give you picture as well as substantial information so that the reader can be informed. I wouldn't have to compare The NY Times app to my previous news app that I previously used because of creditability. Blaze News for example would not be a accurate news source to use. More information, credible sources, reliable editorial are few of many characteristics The NY Times have compare to Blaze News. I would recommend The NY Times to my peers because it would be Ludacris not to use a credible news source to stay informed of what the 45th president is doing. If you are not informed then you are falling prisoner to the corruption.

  4. What I really like about the NYT is that everything that’s recent is there and it’s all facts. It thoroughly covers all the stories it has in the paper. I’m not a huge fan of the actual paper. I understand that it has a lot to cover, but it felt like a lot of weight for a newspaper and that everything is crammed into each paper. A good newspaper can give you in depth coverage that you don’t really have to search for. It’s easier to fact check a newspaper in my opinion. They’re basically the same. News apps give you more constant coverage, which is nice for keeping up with what is going on *right this moment*. Newspaper wait in order to have all of the details to help make sure that their readers are informed, even if it’s the day after the event occurred. That’s also a con with newspapers. You have to wait to get your information, which can bog your knowledge pool until you get your hands on the physical paper. The news app can also be hastily written and have errors that may not be corrected in time for someone to form an opinion on something. I would 100% recommend the NYT to people. It’s well written, factual, and in depth news coverage.

  5. • Things I liked about the NYT was that they publish the papers of business, art, food, sports…etc. I thought NYT is more national wide and covering the variety of stuff, but it went beyond my expectation. I was really surprised that a lot of them that I grabbed had an International news on the first page and thought that would be one of the differences between the local newspapers. I also liked that the table of contents on the cover page had a little plot of news listed on there. And I just simply like the letter font visually.

    • That could be only because English is not my native language, however; I felt like newspaper uses more terminology or difficult vocabulary. That could be one of the reason that newspapers keep young people away to let them tend to read more online as I feel easier to read them. But it still does make sense if I consider what kind of people read the newspaper. Unlike website, it is hard to find what to read when you have limited time and find too much more information than you were searching for.(Could be a good thing)

    • When they have limited pages that they can write news, they can be a good gatekeeper to see what to publish instead of spreading bunch of information to confuse readers who are not journalists and do not know what is more important to read.

    • I felt like NYT does not write fake but I think the reason why I feel that way is because NYT probably has built more trust in their brand as a newspaper. And NYT is known worldwide. Even though most of people in Japan do not even speak or read English, NYT is always sold at the store in the city. Building the brand loyalty would be important because without that, it is hard to get people to download your app in the first place. People usually would not download random news app, but they do download the ones they usually read on website or papers or watch on TV. This could be cons.

    • It depends on who they are. I would love to recommend to people who keep their eyes on international related things. But if they do not really care what is going on outside the U.S. I would rather recommend them to read other local newspapers.

  6. What do you like about the NYT?
    - I like the content. There are no untrustful news or gossips about stars. The NYT have valuable information.
    - There are a lot of types of articles for example business, international, opinions, crosswords, national, artistic and other.
    - I like additional articles, which are different in each newspaper. I noticed Science Times and Weekend Artist. In the Weekend Artist, I enjoy part “Theater Directory: your daily guide to theater,” where recommended theaters’ plays are.
    - The types of advertisements are adjusted to the content. For example in the business part, there are ads only connect with this field. In movie part, there are only ads about films. So it doesn’t make me annoying.
    - I enjoy the part of “Quote of the Day.” I like reading other thoughts, and it also may help to indicate important values.
    - I also like Opinion part. It is very good to get know another point of view.
    - There are a lot of articles about International events. I found some articles about Europe. I noticed an article “Head of European Council Reappointed over protest”. It was the news about Polish candidate Donald Tusk, who was chosen to be the head of UE again. I was nice surprised that article was written by Joanna Berendt (“contributed reporting for Warsaw”). That’s great that NYT based on experience reporters from other countries because international news is more precise and deep.

What do you not like about the paper?
    - I don’t like the format of NYT. The pages are very big, and it 's hard to read it in public transportation or car. I frequently read during meals but with NYT I can’t because it takes most of the table.
    - I think that so big photos are not necessary.
    - There is lack of precise Contents.
    - There are so many pages and several separated parts that very quickly all pages are in a mess. The NYT should fasten everything into one.

What can a good newspaper do that social media or television news cannot?
    - The newspapers’ ads don’t waste your time like while watching TV.
    - In the good press the articles and information are reliable and trustful. You know that they were checked several times by many people before they were published.
    - In TV reporters talk during live stream so they can say something what is not confirmed or not true.
    - Press protects some group of people from information isolation, especially people, who live in places where access to the Internet is difficult.
    - There is less time consuming.
    - We don’t have to worry about fake news.

  7. How do you compare the NYT to your news app that you used for the earlier assignment? What pros and cons are there to each?
I don’t like news apps, and I prefer traditional media.

    Pros for NYT newspaper
    - The advertisement is barely noticeable.
    - The content is well organized.
    - The access to the internet is not required so I can read press everywhere.
    - Articles are longer and better developed.
    - The content is trustful and was checked several times by many people, before published.

    Cons for NYT newspaper
    - There is no immediate access to the newest and unexpected events.
    - The newspaper is uncomfortable to keep in a bag.
    - It may be easily damaged.
    - Limited numbers of copies.
    - You need to find place where get newspapers.
    - Lack of precise Contents. I need to see all pages to find something.

    Pros for news app
    - I have easy access to the newest articles and very old as well.
    - I can use search tool to find something very quickly
    - I don’t need physical space to keep it.
    - Unlimited users.
    - Easy to read and use everywhere with Internet access.

    Cons for news app
    - News articles are short and not well developed.
    - Ads are very annoying.

Would you recommend the NYT to others? Why or why not?
    Of course yes.
    - The NYT is a reliable source of information.
    - There are a lot of types of articles, so everyone finds something interesting. There is a content for businessman, international people, artists, young people, etc.
    - The NYT content covers all necessary and the most important events, which occurred last time in the country and around the world.
    - There are no nonsenses or unconfirmed information.
    - In the NYT there is only general knowledge, so we don’t know about events around our smaller area.

  8. - What I like about the NYT is that it doesn't lean more to the right or more to the left; it's more neutral than others.
    - What I don't like about the NYT is that when you are reading it it'll take up most of the space on the table. It shouldn't be a lot of pages for the same subject.
    - With a good news paper as you can honestly know that the reporter actually gathered all of the fact before the paper is published. On TV people can say anything without getting a confirmation on the subject, many reporters may ask someone who was on the scene and they can give false information. Which leads to fake news.
    - With the NYT paper it's harder to find the news paper because so many people read it, but on an app it's easy access all the time because it's on your mobile device and the notifications can come right to your phone at any given time. The paper on the other hand goes into more the detail than the app do because sometimes you have to be a subscriber to see the rest of the article.
    - I would recommend the NYT to people because it's actually a good paper to read although it takes up a lot of room when reading it. It's very neutral which is a good thing because you can develop your own opinion.

  9. Despite the exceeding amount of slander aimed towards The New York Times recently, I am actually quite impressed with the paper. After reading The New York Times every day, I don’t understand the amount of ridicule targeted at this paper. It seems fact driven, accurate, and for the most part unbiased. While reading through the paper, I don’t believe I saw any of the “fake news” that has been so popularly talked about recently.
One thing that I really appreciated about this paper is the professionalism in the writing. Even though President Trump has gone out of his way to target the paper, even calling the paper “The failing New York Times,” The New York Times has stayed professional and is reporting fact driven information instead of firing back at Trump. What impressed me most about the Times is its neutrality. It doesn’t report too far left or too far right, it provides the information that American’s need to know and leaves it to the reader to decide their position on the topic.
I don’t have many complaints on the paper because it’s actually one of the better ones I’ve read. The only thing I would say was a “con” is the size of the actual paper itself. It just made it difficult to carry around. Also, after a few days of bringing Newspapers back to my apartment, I realized just how much paper Is being used each day. I know it’s necessary and wouldn’t want to call for the end of physical text because I prefer to read that way, but it just seems like something could be done to minimize waste.
A good newspaper can be a relieving way to receive news. When one gets news online or on television, there are so many annoying advertisements to deal with. You can hardly even read the story because so many pop up ads are begging for attention and hoping you will accidentally click on it. With the paper, it was all just simple text stating the facts. The newspaper is one of the only mediums that can provide that type of stress-free way to receive news.
I reviewed the ESPN news application so they are both quite a bit different. I did download CNN and FOX news recently though, and it definitely has pros and cons compared to the Times. The most obvious pro that I’ve mentioned above is the unbiased reporting. That’s something that The New York Times does overwhelmingly better at than FOX or CNN. The con to the Times is that the FOX and CNN news applications are more interesting. They have videos and much more interactive activities for users than just reading facts.
After reading the NYT, I would recommend it to others. I think that if people got their news from a source like the NYT instead of extreme left or right sources, the world would be such a better place. When both sides are just trying to slander the other side and twist the news in their favor, it’s doing no justice for the citizen trying to receive factual, current news. The New York Times delivers the facts the reader needs to know, and I believe the reader is much better for it. I think that NYT is a much more intelligent choice because it allows readers to formulate their own opinion on a subject instead of blindly following what others are saying and not checking the facts.

  10. I thoroughly enjoyed my readings of The New York Times. I like that there is information not just from the United States, but from across the globe, so you have different lenses to see the world through. I also like how all of the news stories are detailed, giving you deeper information than you can ever get from an app. For me personally, I love the idea of holding a newspaper in my hand rather than a phone, in the same way I prefer books over e-readers. It’s definitely the experience of reading a newspaper I enjoy the most. The only thing I might say I don’t like about the newspaper is that if you needed to get your information quick and you’re an on the go person, you are better off to get your CNN updates on your phone. You have to have leisurely time to go through the newspaper, flipping through the pages, whereas with an app on your phone the news is at your fingertips and you can decide whether you have time to read the full article or just stick with the updates. A good newspaper can give you every detail where social media nor television cannot. If you want in-depth information from the story, grab a newspaper. I already stated a little about the news app I use compared to the paper, and I love both. While newspapers are going to be more leisurely, in-depth briefings of what’s happening in the world that are excellent when you have some extra time, the news app keeps me updated on the go between classes. The two can go hand and hand more than people realize-get the app to give you a little taste of the news story, and go to the paper to get the full course. I would recommend the New York Times to people I know, because more of my fellow friends and peers need to be informed. We now live in a world and have for sometime where you need to be informed to be educated and honestly, to be safe. My generation is one where we are always going somewhere-fast paced and not slowing down any time soon. With that being said, that is not always the best course of action. Sometimes you need to slow down and take a look at the world, and this newspaper can give that to you.

  11. • — What do you like about the NYT?
It’s kind of strange to say this, but I like the advertisements. I think it’s because I enjoy looking at pictures when I read offline. Not only that but the advertisements do not get in the way as much, unlike when I read online. The professionalism of the way the writers worded anything. There was enough information to keep me reading and to not get bored.
    • — What do you not like about the paper?
It gives you a tease on the front page about later articles in the newspaper. I know that is really similar to how a website operates, but for me it makes it hard to find the article because I have to work harder to find it. It turns into a scavenger hunt, and I like how online I can just click on the link and it takes me to the article.
    • — What can a good newspaper do that social media or television news cannot?
They can gatekeep the information that is being reported to the public. There are people that work in this industry that will not allow every article that their journalist write into the eyes of the public. That means that there will be less fake news, if not any at all.
    • — How do you compare the NYT to your news app that you used for the earlier assignment? What pros and cons are there to each?
The pictures that were used are better in the newspaper, and there is more information. I like to read when I have the physical copy of it rather than read from my phone.
    • — Would you recommend the NYT to others? Why or why not?
I would recommend it to others because it is not hard to get a copy if you live on campus, and the information is not that biased. There are a few sections where I think it was entertainment purposes, but it is not annoying or anything.

  12. I enjoyed reading the New York Times because it seemed like it was an easy read. There's so many different topics to read about that I don't think anyone could get bored from reading it. There are a few things that I don't enjoy about the New York Times. One of them is trying to locate one. To get a paper at UCA you have to get up early and get one from either Stanley Russ, The College of Business, the Student Center or Irby before they all disappear by 8:30. Also with it being a paper it can easily tear or get damaged so you have to be a little careful with it. A good newspaper can be very relaxing for some people. It helps you "unplug" from your phone or tv for a bit but keeps you plugged in on what's happening with the world. Before reading the NYT I had the CNN app. I enjoyed the NYT paper better because it came with more information and it didn't send out so many alerts on my phone. I could take my time reading the paper and still get better information. I would strongly recommend the NYT paper to everyone. There's something for everybody to read in there, and I think a lot more people need to know what's going on in this world from an unbiased news source.

  13. I enjoyed reading The NY Times for this assignment, what I didn't like was trying to find the paper. Living off campus made it extremely hard to get my hands on a paper because by the time I was in a part of campus that would have one, they were all taken. In terms of comparison to social media news and news apps, the apps are easier to get to and to get the information you would need such as politics and world news. Reading the paper goes a little more into depth though. For example one day there was an article about the Yankees and their grooming traditions as a franchise. I found the article to be extremely interesting, but it was something I wouldn't be able to find on any app due to the amount of depth it went into, the region I am in comparison the the region the paper is aimed at etc. Overall I would recommend finding a paper at least once in a while and reading it cover to cover. You never know what you could find in there that you wouldn't find in your regular new sources.

  14. What I like most about the New York Times are their trending topics selections, how they recommend similar stories based on what I have already viewed, and how well they are organized. The trending topics selection shows what everyone else is interested in and it makes it easier to find a story if you are stuck on what you want to read about. The recommended stories does the same thing, but also narrows down stories based on your interest.
I personally do not dislike much about the New York Times, they are a great source of information. Although, I could complain about the pop-ads or how you cannot read complete articles unless you are subscribed. I hate how when I am on my computer and I click on different stories, the sign-up option pops up every time. Nothing major.
A good newspaper can do a lot that social media and television news cannot. They are able to put out more indepth information whereas television news cannot because of time limits or other stories they plan to cover. I also feel as if television news can amend wrong information immediately.
I will be comparing CNN to NYT. CNN is more of headline news than information because they fail to go indepth. They should moreso be used when you just want to know the surface information. As said before, NYT gives you much more information.
I would recommend NYT to others. I feel as if their articles are not hard to follow or comprehend so everyone can read it. They have a variety of sections so everyone would be able to find at least something they like. They are also a very reliable, they use believable sources.

  15. I enjoyed reading the New York Times. I liked that it doesn’t stay on one side, left or right. It gives you a good middle view. This is good, because it provides you with enough unbiased information to create your own view of the topic. I didn’t like the format of the paper. The layout of the physical paper seemed to overwhelm my eyes at times. It gives you quality information, but almost too much at once. A good newspaper can do many things that television and apps cannot do. For example, a newspaper can provide you with deeper information, when tv and apps cannot due to time limits. I prefer the news app to the physical copy of the NYT, because I like having the information with easy access. With the news app, it allows you to immediately search a specific topic instead of looking through the entire paper. I would recommend reading the NYT paper, because I really enjoyed my experience with it and plan to continue reading it.

  16. I liked reading the New York Times. It gives you all the important facts and doesn't choose a particular side such as lot or right. With it not leaning towards one mat or another it gives you a chance to have your own point of view of each story being told unlike other news sources.

One thing I dislike about most websites is the ad. I cannot stand pop-up ads although, I understand thats how most newspapers make their money.

As a newspaper company you must build trust and credibility. You can't put out information some people don't want out. Also, you must make sure all information you are putting out is straight facts.

I would recommend NYT because it tells you the story straight forward. However, you must subscribe to view the entire article but just by the brief summary you get you still can get a meaning of the story.

  17. The New York Times is a great newspaper. It has plenty of facts and news to quench anyone's appetite. What I enjoy most about the New York Times is its attention to detail that is not present on most news apps. What I personally do not enjoy about the newspaper, is mostly just a personal problem. The fact that most subjects go well above my head. The New York Times can give way more detail than television or social media. Social media job is just to catch your attention. For you to click on the article, meaning that the headline is the most important thing there. Television has a strict time slot allotted to their news segment, so, understandably, television is not going to go into as much detail as the New York Times. I enjoy the New York Times over my news app. I personally enjoy having a paper to read, than to read on my phone. The New York Times goes into much more detail than my news app. But, the key with the news app is the immediacy. To have the news right there in my pocket. For them to update the news continuously throughout the day. I would recommend the New York Times to anyone. It is just a great source to get the news.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I enjoyed reading the New York Times in print over the app. When it comes to the paper, it can be long and detailed, while online and social media tend to be short and to the point. While short is good for saving time, long and detailed is better in keeping the public informed and a longer message is harder to skew. The main problem (at least at UCA) is securing a copy considering how fast they run out. You don't run out of an online article. I would definetly reccoment The NY Times to anyone who wants a more detailed news experience.

  19. I enjoyed the New York Times newspaper for the reasons that the paper was easy to access at the school. I liked the way the paper placed their stories, how they were wrote and what was put into them. I like that it stays at an unbiased tone throughout and keeps the opinions of the writers at a minimum.

  20. • — What do you like about the NYT?
I like the variety of news provided and the depth of the stories. I also like that it doesn't just cover news but also has cross words and comics which is more of what I look at on newspapers anyways.

    • — What do you not like about the paper?
I don't like the lack of copies provided by the school or having to find where to get a NYT newspsper. I also don't like having to hold up and flip through multiple pages in order to read a full story.

    • — What can a good newspaper do that social media or television news cannot?
It provides legit news and coverage that has been fact chacked by journalists. it also has gatekeepers that provide readers with the most important world occurrences without having bias or opinionated coverage.
    • — How do you compare the NYT to your news app that you used for the earlier assignment? What pros and cons are there to each?
I like BBC better because unlike NYT you do not have to subscribe to read all of their stories. Also with BBC you are able to customize the news you want to read.

    • — Would you recommend the NYT to others? Why or why not?
Most likely not for the simple fact that BBC gives just as good of coverage without having to subscribe.

  21. I like the fact that NYT covers a lot of worldwide news coverage but i didnt see any coverage on new york. The news paper can explain more detail and have more facts than social media would. I would recommend NYT if u like mainstream news because there is plenty of it.
